GRACE - Lesson 1 (Week 2: 7 - 11 Jan 2008)

Introduction

“Our schools must use more IT in teaching and learning. We must give students access to a wide range of resources, and help them develop the ability to learn independently.”

- quoted from Prime Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong on his National Day Rally Speech, 1996.

The interdisciplinary project work (IPW) requires pupils to integrate a few subjects into one project, thus making it more complicated. This provides opportunities for pupils to think and solve more complex problems. It also provides an important training for the pupils to equip and prepare themselves for the future workplace where creativity and the ability to think and solve more complex problems would become an important factor for success.

GRACE stands for Group Research And Collaborative Expeditions is the new facelift of the Marist IPW and the objectives of GRACE are to give pupils the opportunity to

* apply creative and critical thinking skills

* foster collaborative learning skills

* improve communication skills

* develop self-directed inquiry & lifelong learning skill

The outcomes of GRACE are as follows:-

* Creative, versatile and productive thinker
* Good team player
* Effective communicator
